Managing Director at A.T. Kearney, Senior Advisor at CSIS, Global Strategy Expert

Erik Peterson is the Partner and Managing Director of A.T. Kearney’s Global Business Policy Council, which provides strategic advisory services for the world’s top CEOs and business-minded thought leaders. He joined the firm in February 2010. Additionally, he is a Senior Advisor at CSIS, the Washington-based bipartisan, nonprofit think tank focusing on foreign policy and national security issues. Formerly, from 1998 to 2010, he served as Senior Vice President at CSIS and held the CSIS William A. Schreyer Chair in Global Analysis, an endowed chair named in honor of Merrill Lynch chairman emeritus Bill Schreyer. From 2003 to 2010, Peterson led the CSIS Global Strategy Institute, a unit he founded to analyze long-range trends and strategies. Before his tenure at CSIS, he was the Director of Research at Kissinger Associates, the international consulting firm chaired by former Secretary of State Henry A. Kissinger.

Peterson serves on the Board of A.T. Kearney’s Energy Transition Institute and has made significant contributions to A.T. Kearney’s collaboration with the World Economic Forum on the Future of Production. He also serves on advisory boards including the Center for Global Business Studies at Pennsylvania State University and the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress. Previously, he was a fellow of the World Economic Forum and a member of the Forum’s Global Risk Network. Peterson has presented in over 45 countries, discussing the implications of global strategic trends on international business and governance.

Peterson is currently completing a book focused on global strategic trends and their impact on global business, with particular emphasis on production, supply chain management, labor, policy, and regulatory changes. He has published several notable pieces including “Race to the Future” (The Age, November 20, 2009), and “The World is Dry” (SAISphere, May 2008). He has co-authored works such as “The World’s Water Challenge,” (Current History, January 2010) and has contributed to “For the Common Good: The Ethics of Leadership in the 21st Century” (Praeger, 2006). Peterson holds an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania, an MA from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and a BA from Colby College. He also holds certificates from the University of Fribourg (Switzerland) in Eastern European Studies and from The Hague Academy of International Law (The Netherlands) in International Legal Studies.
