Director, Cinematographer & Screenwriter Known for "Do the Right Thing" and "Juice"

Ernest Dickerson is a film director and cinematographer who frequently collaborates with Spike Lee, who he met while studying film at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts.

Dickerson started his career as a cinematographer with music videos for Bruce Springsteen, Anita Baker and Miles Davis. His first professional film as a director of photography was Brother from Another Planet.

His career as a cinematographer started with a student film written and directed by Spike Lee, Joe's Bed-Stuy Barbershop: We Cut Heads. The film marks the beginning of a long collaborative partnership between Dickerson and Lee. Dickerson also served as a cinematographer for Lee's films She's Gotta Have It, School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Mo' Better Blues, Jungle Fever and Malcolm X.

Dickerson made his feature film directorial debut in 1992 with Juice, a film that he also co-wrote. The film stars Omar Epps and Tupac Shakur. He has since directed several other films, including Bulletproof, Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight and Surviving the Game.

Dickerson has also directed several episodes of well-known and critically acclaimed television shows including "Once Upon a Time," "Dexter," "The Wire" and "The Walking Dead."

He has directed episodes of the Netflix hit show "House of Cards" and the television series "The Purge" on USA.
