Ernesto Zedillo
Former President of Mexico, Senior Fellow at Yale's Jackson School of Global Affairs & Director of the Program for the Study of Globalization
Ernesto Zedillo, Senior Fellow at the Jackson School of Global Affairs and Frederick Iseman '74 Director of the Program for the Study of Globalization at Yale University, has a long and distinguished academic and political career. His tenure as President of Mexico from 1994 to 2000 was marked by economic stability and significant decrease in wealth disparity. In academia, Zedillo has contributed significantly to the fields of Economics and Political Science as a professor at Yale University. His expertise in globalization and emerging markets, particularly in Central and South America, is reflected in his courses "Debating Globalization" and "The Economic Evolution and Challenges of the Latin American and Caribbean Countries".
Zedillo has been a member of The Elders, an independent group of global leaders, and has served on several panels and commissions including the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response (IPPPR), the Global Commission on Drug Policy, and the Selection Committee of the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity and the Hilton Humanitarian Award. His edited volumes, "Trade in the 21st Century: Back to the Past?" and "Africa at a Fork in the Road: Taking Off or Disappointment Once Again?", reflect his understanding of the global economic landscape. Moreover, his involvement in drug policy reform in Latin America has established him as a leader in this field.
As a policy advisor and commissioner of the Office of the Commissioner of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Zedillo has shown a deep understanding of immigration and migration issues, particularly at the U.S.-Mexico border. His work at the Council on Foreign Relations, including his contributions to the "Renewing America" program and the "China Strategy Initiative", as well as his expertise on topics such as Defense & Security, Diplomacy & International Institutions, and Human Rights, further underscore his ability to speak on a diverse range of topics from an informed global perspective.
