Federico Merlo    

Managing Director for Member Relations, Circular Economy and Built Enviornment Programs at World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD)

Federico Merlo is a marketing and sales professional with over twenty-five years of experience. He worked in product sales at large multi-national companies, start-ups and consulting before joining the non-profit at WBCSD.

After working in finance, marketing and sales in Switzerland and Italy, he became the European Business Manager for DuPont’s fibres business in 1998. He later worked as European Sales Director at Invista (Koch Industries) and as Commercial Director for Consumer Business at Microban®, a start-up company in life sciences, before returning to DuPont in 2006.

Following positions as Regional Director of Business Development for DuPont’s consulting business, and managing global business development operations at DuPont’s headquarters in Wilmington DE (USA), Merlo took leadership of the Centre of Excellence for Innovation and Marketing at DuPont in 2014, sharing his time between Switzerland and USA.

In April 2016, he joined WBCSD as Members Relations Director and was appointed Managing Director of Members and Other Stakeholder Relations in November 2016.

Merlo combines an interest in understanding members' sustainability business drivers and an analytical approach to commerce. He pursued leadership training at IMD and psychology at the Open University. He is a certified Six Sigma Black Belt for top line growth.

A native of Italy and a Swiss national, he holds a Master of Science in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Imperial College (University of London). He is married with two children.
