Fernando Garcia

Designer & Co-Founder of Monse

Fernando Garcia's journey from the vibrant landscapes of the Dominican Republic and the cultural richness of northern Spain to the bustling streets of New York City is a testament to his boundless creativity and relentless pursuit of artistic expression.

Whether sketching intricate patterns on napkins or exploring the architectural marvels of his surroundings, he was driven by an innate curiosity and passion for creation. This passion propelled him to pursue a degree in architecture at the renowned University of Notre Dame, where he honed his skills in spatial design and aesthetic composition.

Following his graduation, Garcia embarked on a transformative journey into the world of fashion, where he seamlessly merged his architectural background with his love for artistry. His trajectory took a pivotal turn when he secured an internship at the esteemed fashion house of Oscar de la Renta in New York City. What began as an opportunity to explore his fascination with garment construction and textile manipulation soon blossomed into a six-year tenure as a principal designer.

At Oscar de la Renta, Garcia's creative vision flourished as he played a pivotal role in shaping the brand's signature aesthetic, particularly in the realm of luxurious evening wear. His keen eye for detail and commitment to craftsmanship became synonymous with some of the label's most iconic pieces, earning him widespread recognition within the industry.

It was during his tenure at Oscar de la Renta that Fernando crossed paths with Laura Kim, a meeting that would ultimately redefine his career trajectory. Together, fueled by a shared passion for innovation and a desire to carve their own path in the world of fashion, they embarked on a new chapter by co-founding Monse in 2016.
