Fernando Machado is the Senior Vice President Global Brand Management at Burger King Corporation. He was named the most innovative CMO in the world by Business Insider for 2019.

With a passion for brands that break the mold, Machado joined the Burger King marketing team three years ago. As Head of Brand Marketing, Machado focuses his efforts on infusing the brand with purpose, while modernizing its design and creating iconic campaigns (like Proud Whopper, McWhopper, Scariest BK and the recent Burning Stores). Awarded Grand Brand Genius by Adweek and International Marketer of the Year by M&M Global, Machado was the leader behind the groundbreaking "Dove Real Beauty Sketches" campaign during his time at Unilever. He has been awarded more than 70 Cannes Lions (including 3 GPs) throughout his career.

Machado is responsible for making Burger King the most creatively irreverent marketer among fast-feeders, and kept a years-long streak alive in 2019 by managing to make McDonald’s the best place to buy a Whopper. “Whopper Detour,” which geo-fenced a 600-foot perimeter around 14,000 McDonald’s locations and triggered a coupon notification for a one-cent Whopper and directions to the nearest BK location, hit 3 billion media impressions, 1.5 million app downloads, and made the BK app No. 1 in the App store.

Prior to Burger King, Machado worked as the Global Brand Development Vice-President for Dove. He also worked with Pond's in Latin America, Vaseline Global. Before that, Machado started his career at Unilever. He first worked there when he was a college student, working on a small detergent brand in Brazil. He ended up leaving the company after 18 years.
