Florence Hudson  

Energy and Environment Executive, IBM

Florence Hudson is an executive in IBM Corporate Strategy where she leads the development of business and technical strategies for energy & the environment, smarter planet, smarter buildings and cities, advanced water management, Watson, analytics, cloud computing, growth markets, financing, hardware, software and services.

Ms. Hudson has lectured widely regarding Smarter Planet and energy & the environment, including a TED talk at the New Jersey Institute of Technology in 2012, Advanced Energy Conferences, Princeton, Columbia and Harvard Universities, China, India, and Trinidad.

She has been at IBM for 31 years in leadership positions including Vice President and Director of Corporate Strategy, acting Chief Technology Officer for the IBM Global Industrial Sector, and as an executive-on-loan and IBM Vice President of Strategic Planning for the Society of Women Engineers where she developed new programs to inspire girls and women to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics worldwide.

Prior to IBM, Ms. Hudson worked for Hewlett-Packard. She also worked as an Aerospace engineer at Grumman Corporation and the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory on projects for solar power satellites, the space shuttle program and future missions around Jupiter.

Florence serves as a Trustee for the Society of Women Engineers, a Director on the Board of Directors for IEC Electronics, a member of the Princeton University Technology Advisory Council and Princeton University Advisory Council for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. She has been honored with the Society of Women Engineers Upward Mobility Award for her exemplary business and technical leadership and for serving as an outstanding mentor and role model for women worldwide, and was honored as a Wise Wonderful Woman of Westchester.

Ms. Hudson graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, and has attended executive education at Harvard Business School and Columbia University.
