Forrest Maltzman
Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs and Planning, The George Washington University
Forrest Maltzman is the senior vice provost for academic affairs and planning and professor of political science. Prior to assuming a role in the provost’s office, he was the chair of GW’s nationally ranked political science department. The political science department has over forty tenure track faculty, approximately 650 majors and a graduate program with a census of close to 90. Maltzman joined the GW faculty in 1993. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota and his B.A. degree from Wesleyan University in Connecticut. From 1991-1992, he held a Hartley Fellowship at the Brookings Institution, and in 1995 he was an American Political Science Association Congressional fellow. His research has focused on the factors that shape decision-making within Congress and the Supreme Court. He has contributed articles to the American Political Science Review, American Journal of Political Science, Journal of Politics, Legislative Studies Quarterly, Political Research Quarterly, Judicature and is the author of Competing Principals: Committees, Parties, and the Organization of Congress (Michigan 1997). He is also the coauthor of Crafting Law on the Supreme Court: The Collegial Game (Cambridge 2000), Advice and Dissent: The Struggle to Shape the Federal Judiciary (Brookings, 2009), and The Constrained Court: Law, Politics, and the Decisions Justices Make (Princeton 2011).
