Fran O'Sullivan

I'd like to welcome Fran O'Sullivan to 'The Heart of Business' blog.

Fran is the Senior Vice President of Lenovo’s product group, which means if you like Lenovo’s products (and I know you do) you can thank Fran.

Fran is an engineer by training, and an accomplished one, having been involved in the first launch of the NASA Space Shuttle and the early days of the PC industry at IBM.

As you can see from the picture Fran is also a woman (why are there so few men named Fran these days?). Because she is both a woman and an engineer, that makes her a bit of an anomaly; that combination is surprisingly rare (though not quite as rare as men named Fran).

Her experience and accomplishments make her a perfect choice to be the co-chair, along with former astronaut Dr. Sally Ride, of the upcoming “Global Marathon For, By and About Women in Engineering,” a live webcast event that will be broadcast to a worldwide audience on Thursday, March 22.

More than her engineering accomplishments, Fran is a great leader. She gets results, obviously, and does so while treating those around her with respect. She has a powerful, inspiring voice, an amazing mind, and a top-notch sense of humor. And she is enthusiastically supporting this unique event.

She is a wonderful role model; I want my daughter to grow up to be just like her. I want my sons to grow up to be just like her. And if I ever have another child, I just might name it after her, whether it’s a boy or a girl.
