Comedian & Mental Health Activist, Clean Comedy

Featured on CNN's "Business Unusual," and a writer for Jay Leno for the last two decades, Frank King has been entertaining (and on occasion, educating) convention attendees on the corporate comedy speaking circuit since 1985.

He was a quarter-finalist on "Star Search" ... he lost to a puppet. He's also appeared on "An Evening at the Improv," "Showtime's Comedy Club Network," and starred in an episode of "Bananas" on PAX TV.

He's opened up for a number of well known entertainers -- among them, Jeff Foxworthy, Ron White, Bill Engvall, Adam Sandler, and Jerry Seinfeld.

He's a full time Speaker on Mental Illness in the Workplace and at Colleges using humor to reduce stigma and discrimination, change perceptions and prejudices, and up productivity.

Frank King, BA, BS, is a graduate of the University North Carolina Chapel Hill, and a professional speaker, comedian, and mental health activist, with 30 years of experience making people laugh, learn, and leave his presentations loving life.

He began his standup comedy career in 1985 catching the comedy club wave, and holds the record for the longest, non-stop comedy club road trip 2629 nights in row, with no home, just a PO Box, and an answering service.

His road trip came to an end as his career as a radio personality, syndicated humor columnist, and professional speaker and trainer began. He's a funny motivational and inspirational speaker, a Memory Trainer, and TED Talker. His keynotes are packed with ah-ha's as well as ha-ha's.

He recently began a Laugh Therapy practice, where in addition to offering standup comedy and laugh yoga classes; he uses the healing power of humor to counsel individuals, and show them how to find the chuckles in change, the laughs in the losses, and the punchlines in the pain.

Community Service Frank is a member of the Springfield, OR Chamber of Commerce, and the Springfield Chamber's Greeters Committee, and is a volunteer with the National Alliance for Mental Health, Lane County Chapter, where he speaks on behalf of NAMI, raising money and awareness for those battling mental health issues, and the people who love them.

He's in the process of starting a chapter of "Stand Up for Mental Illness," which will provide comedians who joke about their battles with mental illness in an effort to de-stigmatize it, and start that conversation.

Publications Frank has a weekly humor column in "The Springfield Times," and is working on a book, a compilation of his favorite columns, "Rubber Chicken Soup for the Soul."

Event inspires solutions to mental health challenges

On Saturday, students gathered to participate in MindHack, an event focused on tackling mental health issues along with a variety of mental health focused activities in Hunt Library and on Centennial campus. Participants were split into teams and came up with a solution to a case study related to mental health. They spent the day developing an idea that they later presented in front of a panel of judges, competing for a series of prizes given to the first and second place teams...
