Frankie Cosmos

Indie Pop Band Known for "Fool," "Sappho" & "Abigail"

Fronted by singer-songwriter Greta Kline, indie pop group Frankie Cosmos began as a solo home-recording project in the early 2010s. Inspired by New York’s SideWalk Cafe anti-folk scene, Kline released numerous online albums, sometimes monthly, before making her studio and label debut with "Zentropy" in 2014. Gaining momentum, her second album, "Next Thing" (2016), became a Top 40 independent album. By 2018, Frankie Cosmos had officially become a quartet, debuting on Sub Pop Records with Vessel. Their 2022 release, "Inner World Peace," introduced a darker, more psychedelic sound influenced by ’70s pop and rock.

A native of New York, Kline played various instruments before settling on the guitar in seventh grade and became immersed in the city’s underground rock scene. While studying poetry at NYU, she began uploading music under different aliases before adopting the name Frankie Cosmos. In 2012, she left college to focus on music, playing shows and releasing numerous self-recorded albums.

Frankie Cosmos’ early work was largely a solo effort, but by "Zentropy," Kline had begun recording with a full band. She signed with Bayonet Records, releasing the "Fit Me In" EP and "Next Thing," which landed on the Billboard Heatseekers chart. In 2017, Kline joined Warehouse members Alex Bailey and Doug Bleichner on the side project Lexie, while Frankie Cosmos became an official four-piece. Their Sub Pop debut, "Vessel," arrived in 2018, followed by "Close It Quietly" in 2019.

The COVID-19 pandemic forced the band off the road, leading to uncertainty about their future. However, after nearly 500 days apart, they reunited to sift through Kline’s 100 new songs, eventually recording 15 for "Inner World Peace." Since then, they have released numerous singles, such as "magic 8 ball," "Take a Picture," and "Abigail."
