Fredricka Whitfield is an anchor for CNN, based at the network's world headquarters in Atlanta. She anchors the weekend edition of CNN Newsroom and serves as a correspondent, reporting on breaking news events globally.

Since joining CNN in 2002, Whitfield has covered a range of significant events. She reported from the Persian Gulf region during the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, from Beijing, China during the 2008 Summer Olympic Games, and from Washington, D.C. during the 2009 presidential inauguration. Her reporting has spanned the 2000 presidential race and ballot recount, extensive extreme weather events across America, and the 1996 Olympics, including the Olympic Park bombing. Whitfield has continued to cover crucial developments, from U.S. military readiness post-September 11th terrorist attacks to humanitarian crises like the 1999 refugee situation in Macedonia during the Kosovo War.

Before her tenure at CNN, Whitfield was a correspondent for NBC News, where she served as an Atlanta-based correspondent for NBC Nightly News and other programs, including The Today Show and Dateline NBC. Her earlier career involved roles at WPLG-TV in Miami, News Channel 8 in Washington, D.C., KTVT-TV in Dallas, WTNH in New Haven, Connecticut, and WCIV in Charleston, South Carolina.

Whitfield's work has earned her numerous awards and honors, including the 2005 George Peabody Award for live coverage of Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath, and the 2007 Emmy Award for outstanding live coverage of a breaking news story long form. She has also received recognition from Sigma Delta Chi, the Society of Professional Journalists, and The Associated Press. Her educational background includes earning a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Howard University.
