Frenchie Davis is a Broadway actress and a singer of soul, dance/electronica, and pop genres. She first gained widespread attention in 2003 as a contestant on the singing competition show American Idol, and thereafter solidified her performing career on Broadway with a four-year run in "Rent." Davis also showcased her talent in various productions, including "Little Shop of Horrors" and "Jesus Christ Superstar in Germany," and as Effie in a West Coast-touring production of "Dreamgirls" in 2004.
In addition to her Broadway accomplishments, Davis continued her pursuit of singing competitions, reaching the top 8 on the first season of "The Voice" in 2011. She was a member of mentor/judge Christina Aguilera's team and won a sing-off against Tarralyn Ramsey. Despite being eliminated during the semi-finals, she joined the other members of the final eight contestants on a U.S. tour in 2011. Davis also released her debut solo single, "Love's Got A Hold On Me," in 2012 and featured in the Tony Moran single "You Are," which peaked at number 5 on the Billboard hot clubplay chart.
Off the stage, Davis is known for her advocacy work particularly for the bisexual community and LGBTQ youth. She publicly identified as bisexual in 2012 and was the featured performer at the National LGBTQ Task Force's 25th National Conference on LGBT Equality in 2013. In recognition of her contributions, Davis received the José Esteban Muñoz award from CLAGS in 2017. Having graduated from Howard University in 2014 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts, Frenchie Davis continues to use her platform to inspire and advocate, demonstrating her proficiency in both performance and public speaking.
