Fred “Fuzzy” Thurston, who played guard in the first two Super Bowls for the Green Bay Packers, will have his Super Bowl II ring sold at auction after losing a 28-year battle with the federal government over back taxes.

The Green Bay Press Gazette reports that U.S. marshals seized Thurston’s ring and will sell it to recover some of the $1.7 million Thurston owes in back taxes.

A court order dictated that Thurston’s Super Bowl I ring was also supposed to be sold, as were four NFL championship rings. (Thurston played on the NFL championship-winning Colts in 1958 and the Packers in 1961, 1962 and 1965, before the first Super Bowl.) But U.S. marshals have not been able to locate those items.

The Super Bowl II ring, a 1960 Packers helmet and autographed footballs will be auctioned later this year.
