Gabriel Weinberg

CEO & Founder of DuckDuckGo & Co-Author of "Traction"

Gabriel Weinberg is the CEO and Founder of DuckDuckGo, a search engine. What sets DuckDuckGo apart from other search engines is the privacy that it guarantees its users. DuckDuckGo promises to never track a user's clicks, or use previous searchers to aid current results. Since creating it 11 years ago, his engine has reached 30 million searches a day in 2018, up 50% from a year before, and is poised to grow even faster since Google added DuckDuckGo as a default search-engine option in its latest Chrome browser in more than 60 markets in March 2019. DuckDuckGo has also introduced a browser extension for Firefox and Chrome, and mobile apps for iOS and Android devices that mask users’ search histories, block web trackers, and route browser traffic through encrypted connections whenever possible, allowing users to reduce their digital footprint in ways “that don’t involve much of a sacrifice,” Weinberg says. Since launching a little more than a year ago, the apps and browser extensions have been installed more than 10 million times.

Previously, Weinberg founded NamesDatabase, which was sold to Classmates.com in 2006. He is also an active angel investor and author of a book that helps startups get customers, titled "Traction: A Startup Guide to Getting Customers."

Weinberg holds two degrees from MIT, a B.S. in Physics (2001) and an M.S. in Technology and Policy (2005). He is based on Valley Forge, PA with his wife and two boys.
