Gary Clark Jr.

Texas Guitarist; Often Compared to Music Icons like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix

Texas guitarist Gary Clark Jr. has been compared to music icons like Stevie Ray Vaughan and Jimi Hendrix. His playing is an impactful mix of blues roots with contemporary soul and hip-hop, creating an amalgam of past and future blues.

Clark was born and raised in Austin, TX. At the age of 12, he first picked up a guitar, spending his teens playing whatever gig he could snag in the Austin area. Eventually, he met Clifford Antone, promoter and owner of the city's premier blues club, Antone's. He began featuring Clark at his venue.

An amazing live performer, Clark soon became a standout musician in Austin's blues and rock scene. He released an independent album, 2005s "Tribute," which was followed by a pair of self-produced albums in 2008 for Hotwire Unlimited, "110" and "Worry No More." An EP, "Gary Clark Jr.," also appeared from Hotwire in 2010.

In addition to his guitar playing skills, Clark can also sing, write and arrange. He wrote the original score for the film "Full Count," as well as appeared as an actor in the 2007 film "Honeydripper."

In 2010, Eric Clapton selected Clark to perform at the Crossroads Guitar Festival. A DVD of the show led to Clark's recording deal with Warner Bros. He was soon working on his major-label debut. "Bright Lights," an EP, was released in 2011. Clark's full-length album, "Blak and Blu," was released in October 2012.

In 2015, he released the album "The Story of Sunny Boy Slim". In February 2019, he released his third studio album "This Land".
