Gary Nabel is senior vice president, chief scientific officer and deputy to the president for global R&D at Sanofi. Before joining Sanofi in 2012, he was at the U.S. National Institutes of Health, serving as director of the Vaccine Research Center of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. Earlier, he was at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor as a professor, Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator, director of the Center for Gene Therapy and co-director of the Center for Molecular Medicine. Nabel was elected to the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences in 1998. A fellow of the American Association of Physicians and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, he has received numerous honors, including the Health and Human Services Secretary's Award for Distinguished Service. Nabel received his M.D., Ph.D. and B.S. from Harvard. He was also a postdoctoral fellow in the laboratory of David Baltimore at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Whitehead Institute.
