George Brauchler

District Attorney, Former Defense Attorney & JAG officer

George Brauchler is one of the premiere and highest profile prosecutors in America, having handled some of the most recognized cases in our nation’s recent history, including the Columbine massacre and the Aurora Theater (Batman) mass shooting, as well as having conducted the mock cross examination of the victim in the Kobe Bryant rape case that ultimately resulted in its dismissal. George is the most interviewed, quoted, and media savvy attorney in Colorado and one of the most in the country, having appeared in several national documentaries about high profile criminal cases. He also has regularly filled-in for numerous radio hosts throughout the Denver metro area.

Since becoming the first person elected from outside the District Attorney’s office to lead it since before we landed on the moon, George has led dramatic change in prosecution. He has created and advocated for specialty courts to address veterans, mental illness, and addiction, de-emphasized the use of habitual criminal charges, advocated for pardons, established a Conviction Review Unit, maintains the most successful juvenile diversion unit in Colorado, and created expert units in prosecuting human trafficking, domestic violence, and elder abuse.

George is one of the most sought-after criminal lecturers and trainers in criminal justice, leadership, military justice, and trial advocacy in the United States. He trains civilian and military prosecutors across the country and throughout the world, including at the International Criminal Court at The Hague. He is currently in his seventeenth year as an adjunct professor at the University of Denver College of Law, and has previously served as adjunct faculty for the University of Colorado School of Law, the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General Legal Center and School and the Defense Institute of International Legal Studies.

George is a Colonel in the Colorado Army National Guard, where he has recently been appointed as the state’s first military judge. He has been the State Judge Advocate and a Legal Advisor for NORAD and Northern Command. As a member of the U.S. Army Reserve, he has been mobilized twice since 9/11 and last served on active duty as the Chief of Military Justice (top prosecutor) for U.S. Division North and Taskforce Ironhorse in Tikrit, Iraq.

George has received numerous awards and accolades, including being recognized as the Best Public Sector Lawyer four separate times by Law Week Colorado, and has served as the President of the Colorado District Attorneys Association.
