Gerald Huff

Technologist & Futurist; Principal Software Engineer at Tesla Motor

Gerald Huff is a technologist and software entrepreneur. For the last four years, Gerald has been researching and writing about the current wave of technological innovations, including breakthroughs in machine learning, robotics, 3D printing, and personalized medicine, and their implications for our society. He has focused in particular on the potential for large-scale displacement of employment as artificial intelligence and practical robots can increasingly substitute for human labor in the economy.

In 2014 Gerald organized a conference at Singularity University with Peter Diamandis bringing together more than 30 experts in technology, economics, labor, and government to discuss this problem. He spoke in April 2015 on the topic of “Jobs and Technology” at the Milken Global Conference. Most recently, he participated in the Global Summit on Technological Unemployment.

Gerald is currently the Principal Software Engineer at Tesla Motors. He serves as the technical leader of Tesla’s cloud services, which enable over-the-air updates, remote diagnostics, real-time telemetry data gathering, and mobile app access to the entire fleet of customer vehicles.

He was Chief Architect of the Small Business Division at Intuit, Inc. and the Director of Intuit’s Technology Innovation Group, evaluating and prototyping emerging technologies in the small business and personal finance space. He joined Intuit after co-founding and running engineering for a venture-backed software startup in the 1990’s. Gerald began his career as a management consultant with Bain and Company.
