Actress, Award-Winning Producer & Activist

Gina Belafonte has spent her life in the arenas of entertainment and activism, where her professional work thrives today. As the Executive Director of Sankofa.org, a social justice organization, she enlists the support of celebrated artists and influential individuals in collaboration with grassroots partners to elevate the voices of the disenfranchised and promote peace, justice, equality, cultural, and civic engagement.

An Artivist, Actress, Director, and Producer, Belafonte has been a part of many arts and activism initiatives. She is the lead producer of the award-winning documentary "Sing Your Song," which explores the life and legacy of her father, Harry Belafonte. She directed the award-winning Hip-Hop spoken word musical "Lyrics From Lockdown," which addresses issues such as mistaken identity, mass incarceration, and police brutality. Belafonte produced the "Many Rivers to Cross Social Justice Arts and Music Festival," uniting over 40 artists and 50 social justice organizations in a two-day event focusing on voting rights, mass incarceration, and poverty. She has also launched a virtual reality mental health program aimed at enhancing the accessibility and quality of mental health resources.

Belafonte's collaborations are extensive, including working with For Freedoms on the 50 State Initiative and the reimagining of Norman Rockwell’s Four Freedoms, as well as participating in INTO ACT!ON. She is a recognized voice in discussions about social justice, equity, diversity, and human rights, often serving as a keynote speaker and moderator at various public speaking events. Her work particularly focuses on themes related to Black Heritage & History Month, contributions to human rights, philanthropy, and activities surrounding Juneteenth. She actively shapes new realities around race, social justice, and community through her various initiatives and artistic endeavors.
