Belgian-Australian Singer-Songwriter Known For "Somebody That I Used to Know"

Wouter "Wally" De Backer is a Belgian singer-songwriter. Based out of Australia, Gotye's name stems from the French version of "Wouter," which is Gauthier. "Gotye" is a pronunciation respelling of the French version. Gotye's voice has been compared to that of Sting and Peter Gabriel.

His 2011 single, "Somebody That I Used to Know" went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. He has won three Grammy Awards, all at the 55th Annual Grammy Awards in 2013. He won Record of the Year, Best Alternative Music Album and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.
