Gregory Crewdson, a distinguished American photographer, is well-recognized for his grand, cinematic prints of orchestrated scenes set in suburban landscapes and interiors. Crewdson's approach to photography involves a large production and lighting crew to meticulously construct his images, resulting in works often described as cinematic, involving elaborate sets, significant crews, and substantial budgets. Crewdson's artistry draws influence from films like "Vertigo," "The Night of the Hunter," and "Blue Velvet," as well as the works of painter Edward Hopper and photographer Diane Arbus.

Crewdson's career extends beyond photography, with his role as a professor and the director of graduate studies in photography at Yale School of Art. An open-water swimmer, Crewdson attributes the meditative state achieved during swimming as fundamental to his creative process. He currently resides in western Massachusetts in a former Methodist church with his partner, writer and producer Juliane Hiam.
