Deputy Executive Director for Management and Governance at the United Nations; Former Minister of International Development Cooperation of Sweden

Gunilla Carlsson has been a member of the Riksdag (Swedish Parliament) since 2002 and is currently Sweden’s Minister for Development Cooperation.

Having worked as an auditor, Ms. Carlsson joined the Moderate Party office in 1994 and was later elected the Party’s vice chairman in 1999. In 1995 she was elected to the European Parliament, and in 2002, elected to the Riksdag.

Her political appointments in the Swedish Parliament include Deputy Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs and Deputy Member of Committee on EU Affairs. She has also served on the Committees on Foreign Affairs, EU Affairs and Education. Within the European Parliament, she has served from 1995 to 2002 as Vice Chair of European People's Party (EPP) and has been an active member of the Committees on Foreign Affairs, Human Rights, Common Security and Defence Policy, as well as substituted on Committee on Industry, External Trade, Research and Energy. In a local government capacity, she has served in 1989 as Member of Vadstena Municipal Council.
