Features Writer for the Los Angeles Times & Author, "Taco USA"; Former Syndicated Columnist, "Ask the Mexican!"

Gustavo Arellano is a features writer for the Los Angeles Times, covering Southern California everything and a bunch of the West and beyond.

He previously worked at OC Weekly, where he was an investigative reporter for 15 years and editor for six. Gustavo wrote a nationally syndicated column called ¡Ask a Mexican!. The column had a weekly circulation of over 2 million in 39 newspapers across the US, won the 2006 and 2008 Association of Alternative Weeklies award for Best Column, and in 2007 was published into book form.

Arellano is the recipient of the Los Angeles Press Club's 2007 President’s Award and an Impacto Award from the National Hispanic Media Coalition, and was recognized by the California Latino Legislative Caucus with a 2008 Spirit Award.

He is the author of Taco USA: How Mexican Food Conquered America. He’s the child of two Mexican immigrants, one of whom came to this country in the trunk of a Chevy.
