Gwen Woods

Co-Founder & Co-Owner of Brooklyn Restaurant The Crabby Shack

Gwen Woods is a co-founder and co-owner of Brooklyn restaurant The Crabby Shack along with her business partner Fifi Bell-Clanton.

Woods grew up with a family tradition of crab. Her father is from the Chesapeake Bay area and as a treat for the family, always brought crabs back after visiting his home.

Woods was frustrated by the severe lack of crab in New York, as was Bell-Clanton. It was one night at a dinner party at Woods's house when Bell-Clanton brought up the idea of opening a crab restaurant. A year later The Crabby Shack was born.

In 2019, both Woods and Bell-Clanton were featured in the documentary She Did That, which takes an in-depth look at the lives and businesses of Black women entrepreneurs.
