Daughter of Immigrants, Living the American Dream

Her mother survived Dachau and Auschwitz, while her father, drafted into a Jewish slave labor camp, organized the escape of 20 men during a forced march toward Auschwitz in 1945. The Freilichs fled Eastern Europe in 1950 and established themselves in Gardner, Massachusetts where her father became the community Rabbi.Mrs. Lieberman graduated from Boston University in 1970 with a degree in Government and Dramatics. She received a Masters degree in international relations and American government from Northeastern University in 1971.

Mrs. Lieberman has dedicated much of her life's work to health issues, assisting nonprofit organizations, improving educational standards, and promoting international understanding. She has developed an international Advisory Network for Women's Health based in Jerusalem at Shaare Zedek Hospital and the U.S. Domestic efforts included the formation of a Sister to Sister partnership focus ing on promoting awareness and prevention of heart disease (1998-2000). In addition, she directed HFL & Associates, an independent consulting firm dedicated to expanding domestic and international awareness of non-profit organizations (1997-1998); developed a series of national conferences on health-related issues as a Senior Associate at APCO Associates (1993-1997); worked to link American business and industry to world class standards in mathematics and science as a Senior Program Officer at the National Research Council (1990-1993); launched an $11 million health care campaign as Director of Policy, Planning and Communications for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals (1982-1985); developed a public affairs department at Hoffmann-La Roche (1972-1981); and worked as a research analyst at Lehman Brothers (1971- 1972).

In addition to her professional responsibilities, Mrs. Lieberman also has devoted considerable time and energy to community service. Her efforts have included a youth development and character building program for teenage girls, Best Friends; Meridian House, a nonprofit educational institution that promotes international understanding; and the Auschwitz Jewish Center Foundation, which memorializes victims of the Holocaust. She was a member of the United States delegation to the commemoration ceremonies marking the liberation of Auschwitz and has participated in international forums on environmental and socioeconomic issues in Eastern Europe. She also has chaired the annual Ambassadors Ball, sponsored by the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Mrs. Lieberman is formly the Senior Counsel for Hill & Knowlton's health care and pharmaceuticals practice, where she addressed the constantly changing dynamics of today's global health care market.

In her speeches, Mrs. Lieberman, the daughter of holocaust survivors, provides a firsthand glimpse of her family's historic journeys, from the concentration camps of Europe to the campaign trail. Her heartfelt talk includes touching and insightful anecdotes.

Mrs. Lieberman is married to Senator Joseph Lieberman of Connecticut who was the Democratic vice-presidential candidate in the 2000 presidential election. An Amazing Adventure chronicled the excitement, their sense of the honor, the extraordinary demands, and the satisfactions of the hard-fought campaign they waged as a team.. They have four children and four grandchildren.
