Harold Taylor, CSP, president of Harold Taylor Time Consultants Inc.

Harold Taylor, CSP, president of Harold Taylor Time Consultants Inc. has been speaking, writing and conducting training programs on the topic of effective time management for over 25 years. He has written 16 books, including a Canadian bestseller, Making Time Work For You. He has personally developed over 50 time management products, including the popular Taylor Time Planners, which have sold in 38 countries around the world.

His monthly Time Management Report has been published for twenty-five years and he has had over 300 articles accepted for publication. In addition he writes a weekly electronic report, Taylor’s Time Tips, with a circulation of over 5,000 managers and professionals. His ideas have appeared in a broad range of publications, including Reader’s Digest, Chatelaine, Woman’s Day, Canadian Banker, Flare and Executive Magazine.

A past director of the National Association of Professional Organizers, Harold Taylor received their Founder’s Award in 1999 for outstanding contributions to the organizing profession. He received the CSP (Certified Speaking Professional) designation in 1987 from the National Speakers Association in Tempe, Arizona. In 1998 the Canadian Association of Professional Speakers inducted him into the Canadian Speaking Hall of Fame. And in 2001, he received the Founder’s Award from the Professional Organizers in Canada. The award has been named in his honor.

Prior to his speaking career, Harold held management positions in industry for twelve years and taught business subjects for eight years at Humber College in Toronto. He has been an entrepreneur for over thirty years, incorporating four companies during that time, all of which are still operating successfully. Since 1981, when he incorporated the time management company, he has presented over 2000 workshops, speeches and keynotes on the topic of time and life management. (See separate list of clients)

Upon graduation from Ryerson Institute of Technology in 1956 with a diploma in Research Technology and an ET (Engineering Technician) designation, Harold spent two years at Canadian Johns-Manville Company as a quality control supervisor. Then, while employed as an industrial manager at American-Standard for ten years, he completed both a four-year certificate course in Management & Administration at the University of Toronto and a three-year diploma course in Ceramic Technology from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario. After leaving American-Standard, he was employed for eight years as a Teaching Master at Humber College of Applied Arts & Technology. He taught courses in Theories of Management, Organization Development and Manufacturing Operations.

In 1967, while teaching at Humber College, he started a management consulting company, Taylor Enterprises, where he worked part-time as a management consultant, specializing in association management. During that time he was publisher and editor of four magazines, and received a Business Press Editor’s Association award for outstanding editorial achievement in the Professional Development Series category for his Keys to Effective Management column. Eight years later he joined Taylor Enterprises full time and studied time management through workshops, courses, mentoring and personal research, incorporating another company, Harold Taylor Time Consultants Inc. in 1981. Since that time he has developed into Canada’s leading authority on time management, appearing over fifty times on radio and TV and constantly being interviewed by the media for articles, books and courses on organizational skills and time and life management.

A Toronto Star newspaper article in 1983 called him Canada’s time management expert. A Business Dynamics Magazine article in 1999 referred to him as a world leading authority on time management. The book, The Seven Strategies of Master Negotiators, by Dr Brad McRae (published in 2002 by McGraw-Hill Ryerson) claims Harold Taylor is recognized to be the expert on time management in both Canada and the United States.

As a time management consultant, Harold Taylor has presented training programs in Mexico, England, Holland and New Zealand as well as in the United States and Canada. He has conducted training programs for such companies as Procter & Gamble, Kelloggs, Ford Electronics, IBM Canada, Coca Cola, Caterpillar, Campbell Soup, 3M, Merck Frosst, Duracell, Norvartis and Philips Electronics.

His first book, published in 1981, Making Time Work For You, was a Canadian bestseller. It was translated into five languages and published in fourteen countries. Beaufort in New York published it as a hardcover and Dell Pocket Books published it as a mass-market pocket book. Originally published in hardcover format in Canada by General Publishing in 1984, Delegate: The Key to Successful Management has since been reprinted and published in a dozen countries, translated into several languages and used in organizations throughout the world.
