Brigadier General Harvey W. Schiller, USAF Ret., Ph.D., is Chairman of the Board and CEO of GlobalOptions Group, an international risk management and business solutions company. In addition, Dr. Schiller serves as Vice Chairman and President of the Sports and Entertainment Practice of Diversified Search, one of the top executive search firms in the U.S. He recently served as President of the International Baseball Federation, the international governing body for baseball, and is a member of the board of the World Baseball Classic, and America’s Cup 34. Schiller came to GlobalOptions from a position as Chairman of Assante U.S., a provider of financial and life management products. Prior to joining Assante, Schiller served as Chairman and CEO of YankeeNets, an integrated sports-based media company with ownership of the New York Yankees, New Jersey Nets, and New Jersey Devils. Until December, 1999 Dr. Schiller served as President of Turner Sports, Inc., a division of Time Warner; and President and Governor of the NHL franchise, the Atlanta Thrashers. Before joining Turner in 1994, Schiller was Executive Director/Secretary General of the United States Olympic Committee (USOC). He served as consultant to the 1984 Los Angeles Games and currently is a member of the IOC Commission on Women and Sports. In December 1994, he was awarded the prestigious Olympic Order, the highest decorated honor presented to an individual by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). Schiller joined the USOC after serving as Commissioner of the Southeastern Conference (SEC) from 1986 to 1990 and served as a member of the NCAA Executive Committee. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force from 1962 to 1986, including combat service in Vietnam, and attained the rank of Brigadier General. In 1980, the President of the United States appointed Schiller as a Permanent Professor at the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is a graduate of the Armed Forces Staff College, and Army Airborne training. He holds several military awards including the Legion of Merit and Distinguished Flying Cross. Schiller earned his bachelor’s degree from The Citadel, is a member of their Athletic and Business Halls of Fame and is a recent recipient of the prestigious Palmetto Award. He earned his master’s degree and doctorate in chemistry from the University of Michigan, and holds honorary doctorates from The Citadel, Northern Michigan University, and the United States Sports Academy. Schiller was recently inducted into the New York Athletic Club Hall of Fame. He is active in a variety of national organizations and corporate boards. Recent appointments include: Chairman of the Management Committee for the NYC 2012 Olympic Bid Committee; Vice Chair of the Host Committee of the 2004 Republican National Convention; the Senate Commerce Commission to study the structure of the USOC; White House Commission on Presidential Scholars; Advisory Board, Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium; Co-chair, Advisory Board of the New York Business of Sport High School; Board, Air Force Academy Athletic Corporation; Board, Mesa Air Group; Board, Iverson Genetics; and Distinguished Visiting Professor at Goizueta School of Business at Emory University. He is a member of the Board of the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum.
