Computer Science Professor; Leader in Lifelong Learning, AI & Computational Neuroscience

Hava Siegelmann is a professor of computer science, and a world leader in the fields of Lifelong Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Neural Networks, and Computational Neuroscience. Professor Siegelmann joined the College of Information and Computer Sciences at the UMass Amherst as an Associate Professor in 2001 and is currently a Professor and the director of the BINDS lab. She is also a Core Faculty member of the Neuroscience and Behavior Program. Before joining UMass, she was on the faculty of Industrial Engineering and Management at the Technion and served as the head of Information Systems Engineering. She has been a visiting professor at MIT and Harvard University.

Dr. Siegelmann, a recognized expert in Complex Systems and Neural Networks, focuses on theoretical computational neuroscience, computation in and modeling of natural systems and their application to intelligent systems. The creator of a new field of computer science, Super-Turing computation, Dr. Siegelmann is applying the theory to biological systems and exploring them in connection with a new generation of analog computers.

Professor Siegelmann has been active in the International Neural Networks Society, serving on the Elected Board of Governors since 2012, she recently served as the Program Chair of the International Joint Conference on Neural Networks (IJCNN), 2011. She currently also serves as the Vice-Chair on the Neural Network Technical Committee (NNTC) of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (CIS) as well as a Task Force member in "Towards Human-like Intelligence" under the IEEE CIS. Professor Siegelmann is an associate editor of the Journals Neural Networks and Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience, and she serves on the advisory board of the American Institute of Physics Journal, Chaos. She was named a partner of the Weizmann Institute (2008).
