Founder of One Country & CNBC & ABC News Contributor; Director of the University of Chicago Institute of Politics; First Woman Senator of North Dakota

Heidi Heitkamp has a long-standing commitment to public service. Her journey began as the 20th North Dakota tax commissioner, a position she held from 1986 to 1992. She then served as the 28th North Dakota attorney general from 1992 to 2000. In 2013, Heitkamp broke barriers by becoming the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate from North Dakota, a position she held until 2019. Her time in the Senate was marked by a reputation as a moderate Democrat who often supported bipartisan legislation.

After leaving the Senate, Heitkamp continues to contribute to public discourse as a CNBC and ABC contributor. She also pursued academic endeavors as a visiting fellow at the Harvard Kennedy School's Institute of Politics and later as the director of the University of Chicago Institute of Politics. She has used these platforms to advocate for policies such as the Israel Anti-Boycott Act, reforms to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, and a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution.

Heitkamp's endeavors extend beyond policy and academia. In 2019, she launched the One Country Project, an organization aimed at helping Democrats reconnect with rural voters. She also serves on the advisory board of the Canadian American Business Council and has contributed to her brother's radio talk show program, "News and Views." These experiences, coupled with her history of public service, highlight her understanding of the American political landscape and her ability to engage with a variety of audiences.
