Heidi Stevens      

Director of External Affairs, TMW Center for Early Learning & Public Health; Fellowship Coach, The OpEd Project; Former Columnist, Chicago Tribune

Heidi Stevens is currently the Director of External Affairs at the TMW Center for Early Learning and Public Health at the University of Chicago, a translational research institute. In this role, she cultivates and manages outward-facing communications and relationships in support of the center's mission to help parents, caregivers, and communities promote healthy development for all children.

Stevens started her career in journalism with the Chicago Tribune. She dedicated 23 years to the renowned publication, during which she donned the roles of writer and editor. Notably, she penned a daily column dubbed "Balancing Act" that ran for a decade, covering gender, race, parenting, politics, relationships, and communities. Stevens' excellence in her craft was recognized in 2018 when she received the Anne Keegan Award for Distinguished Journalism. She also formerly co-hosted the "On Purpose" podcast with Dr. John Duffy.

Expanding her professional horizons, Stevens has been affiliated with The OpEd Project, a community of thought leaders, journalists, commentary writers, and activists whose goal is to amplify the expert voices of underrepresented people, as a Facilitator and Fellowship Coach since 2021.
