Helena Bonham Carter

Award-Winning Actress; Best Known for "Harry Potter"

Helena Bonham Carter is an English actress known for her roles in both independent art films and large-scale blockbusters, like Fight Club and the Harry Potter series.

Her launch into the world of acting came in 1979, when she entered, and won, a national writing contest, and used the money won to pay for her entry into the actor's directory, Spotlight. In 1983, she made her professional acting debut in her first major role, A Pattern of Roses, a made-for-television movie, followed by Lady Jane and A Room with a View. She later appeared in "Hamlet" as the iconic Ophelia, and later in Howards End, Frankenstein, and Mighty Aphrodite. Her first Academy Award nomination came from her performance in "The Wings of the Dove" in 1997. She later expanded her range, and now has an impressive background including films like Fight Club, Planet of The Apes, Big Fish, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Harry Potter, and Alice in Wonderland.

In 2011 Bonham Carter was nominated for a second Academy Award, for her role as Queen Elizabeth alongside Colin Firth’s King George VI in The King’s Speech. She subsequently appeared on-screen in Les Misérables, The Lone Ranger, Cinderella, Suffragette, and Ocean's 8. In 2016, she reprised her role as the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland in the sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass. Although much of Bonham Carter's accreditation is through film, she has made numerous appearances on the small screen, and has appeared as a series regular on "The Crown" since 2019.

In addition to her film roles, Bonham Carter has appeared in several stage plays in her native England, including "The Tempest", "Trelawny of the “Wells”", and "The Barber of Seville". She made several appearances in BBC radio plays and TV movies, including "Burton & Taylor", "Turks & Caicos" and "Salting the Battlefield".
