Hitmek Ersek became president and CEO of The Western Union Company on September 1, 2010. As chief operating officer, Ersek is responsible for all of Western Union’s business units around the world, as well the company’s operations and marketing functions. In addition, Ersek serves as chairman at the Western Union International Bank. Ersek joined Western Union in 1999 as regional vice president for South Europe. He was later appointed to the position of senior vice president, Europe, Middle East, Africa, and South Asia, and then became executive vice president. Ersek began his career in the financial-services industry at Europay/MasterCard in Austria. He later joined General Electric Capital. In addition to being responsible for retailer sales, finance, and the card business, Ersek also represented GE as national executive in Austria and Slovenia.
