Hillary Rodham Clinton has served as secretary of state, senator from New York, and first lady of the United States.

In 2000, Clinton was elected to the U.S. Senate. Clinton ran for president in 2016 and became the first woman to earn a major party’s presidential nomination.

Clinton is also an author, having penned multiple books, including "It Takes a Village," "Hard Choices," "Living History," and "What Happened." She has taken a co-author role with her daughter Chelsea Clinton for "The Book of Gutsy Women: Favorite Stories of Courage and Resilience" and "Grandma's Gardens" and with author Louise Penny for the novel "State of Terror." Clinton has also published a collection of essays in "Something Lost, Something Gained: Reflections on Life, Love, and Liberty."

She is also the former first lady of Arkansas, and a practicing lawyer, law professor, activist, and volunteer. After serving as a lawyer for the congressional committee investigating President Nixon, she moved to Arkansas, where she taught law and ran legal clinics representing disenfranchised people. She co-founded Arkansas Advocates for Children and Families, one of the state’s first child advocacy groups.

On October 11, 1975, Hillary married Bill Clinton in a small ceremony in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Bill was first elected president in 1992 and re-elected in 1996.
