Hunter Schafer is an actress, model, and activist best known for her role as Jules, a transgender high school student, in the HBO series "Euphoria." Schafer began her modeling career in 2017, working with globally recognized fashion brands such as Dior, Miu Miu, Rick Owens, Helmut Lang, Tommy Hilfiger, Coach, Maison Margiela, Vera Wang, Marc Jacobs, Versus Versace, Emilio Pucci, Ann Demeulemeester, and Erdem. She has also served as the house ambassador for Prada and the global brand ambassador for Shiseido Makeup.
Her acting debut in "Euphoria" was widely praised, and she has since worked on ensuring accurate representation of transgender experiences on the show. She has also received significant accolades for her work, including a Shorty Award, an MTV Movie & TV Award, and a Dorian Award. Apart from "Euphoria," Schafer has acted in other notable projects, including "Belle," "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes," "Cuckoo," and "Kinds of Kindness." Additionally, she will appear in David Lowery's film "Mother Mary." She is also set to join the cast of the Amazon science fiction television series "Blade Runner 2099."
Schafer's creative talents extend beyond acting, as she co-wrote a special episode of "Euphoria" titled "Fuck Anyone Who's Not a Sea Blob" and made her directorial debut with the music videos for "Hornylovesickmess" by Girl in Red and "Why Am I Alive Now?" by Anohni and the Johnsons.
Schafer hails from Raleigh, North Carolina, and is an alumnus of the high school visual arts program at UNC School of the Arts. Notably, she protested against North Carolina's House Bill 2, colloquially known as "the bathroom bill," during her high school tenure. For her contributions to the LGBTQ+ community and the arts, Teen Vogue included Schafer on its 21 Under 21 list, while Queerty listed her among the fifty heroes "leading the nation toward equality, acceptance, and dignity for all people." Time also included her in its 2021 Next list of "100 emerging leaders who are shaping the future." Schafer was also named one of Forbes' 30 Under 30 in the entertainment industry. Schafer has also been vocal in advocating for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war.
