Dr Ian Robertson (HonDSc) is a 35-year veteran of the automobile industry who today is a member of the board of management of BMW Group. In 1979, he was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Maritime Studies from the University of Wales in Cardiff and was all set for a career in the oil industry. Instead, he joined the Rover Group as a graduate trainee. Ian went on to hold various management positions within the Rover Group and became Managing Director of Land Rover Vehicles in 1994. Four years later, Ian Robertson was appointed President of BMW South Africa. In 2005, he moved to become the Chairman and Chief Executive of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, a role he continued to fulfil after being appointed to the Board of Management of BMW AG with overall responsibility for Sales and Marketing. In 2012, Ian Robertson was appointed the Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Sales and Marketing BMW and Sales Channels BMW Group.
