Founder of Databricks

Dr. Ion Stoica co-founded Conviva, Inc. (formerly Rinera Networks, Inc.) in 2006 and serves as its Chief Technology Officer. Dr. Stoica is the Founder of Databricks, Inc., and serves as its President and Chief Executive Officer. He has been Member of Technology Advisory Board at BlueData Software, Inc. since September 9, 2014. He serves as a Director of Databricks, Inc. He serves as Director of Conviva, Inc. Dr. Stoica is an accomplished scientist and author. Dr. Stoica served as Professor at EE/CS department of UC Berkeley, where he continued advanced computer science research until 2006. Dr. Stoica co-developed two key technologies: Chord, one of the first distributed-hash table protocols, and Internet Indirection Infrastructure, a highly flexible communication platform. Dr. Stoica is mentorship of scientists as an Associate Professor of Computer Science at University of California, Berkeley. Dr. Stoica's achievements include the IEEE William R. Bennett Award, the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, The Presidential Early Career Award (PECASE), the ACM Doctoral Dissertation Award, and the Okawa Foundation Fellowship. Dr. Stoica received the ACM Best Dissertation Award in 2001 for his PhD thesis "Stateless Core: A Scalable Approach for Quality of Service in the Internet." Dr. Stoica's other achievements include the Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship, The Presidential Early Career Award (PECASE), and the 2007 CoNEXT Rising Star Award. Dr. Stoica completed his masters thesis in Bucharest, Romania, and moved to the US to complete doctoral work under Hui Zhang in 2000.
