Ivy Helstein

Psychotherapist, dynamic speaker and author

Ivy Helstein, psychotherapist, dynamic speaker and author is one of the leading experts on the art of life change. She has worked for over 30 years in giving people “tools” to live not from ineffective behavioral patterns and limited vision but from their own innate abilities.

She was one of the early pioneers in the Continuing Education movement on the East Coast and developed and taught a variety of personal growth workshops at many institutes of higher learning: Hofstra University, CW Post College, Nassau Community College where she is on the faculty, and currently Santa Monica College. Over the years, literally thousands of people have enjoyed Ivy’s charismatic presence, infectious humor and have gained effective skills from her information packed workshops: Assert Yourself For Career and Personal Success, Turn Anger into Positive Creative Energy, Conflict Resolution, Tap Your Intuitive Power: Unleash Your Innate Abilities and Potential, to name just a few.

In 1974, Ivy founded her consulting and seminar company, Communication Dynamics. Drawing upon her practical experience as a psychotherapist and teacher, she brought her professional expertise in life management skills and organizational behavior into the corporate world, associations and an extensive variety of professions.

Her unique niche as a psychotherapist is working with a distinctive sector of the population, High Achievers: CEOs, politicians, celebrities and countless others. Her article, The Affluenza Epidemic: Are You Paying Too Much for Success? talks to the specific issues and needs of high achievers- their lives and inter-personal relationships.

She was honored by the National Speakers Association as one of the founding members of the Metro Chapter and won the coveted Chapter Member of the year Award. In 2000, she was featured in Who’s Who in the World, the Millennium Edition, and most currently the 25th Anniversary Edition of Who’s Who in American Women.

Although having accomplished much, Ivy’s greatest desire is to help even more people. And in 1999, she wrote her book, Infinite Abilities: Living Your Life on Purpose. Through it and her many book signings and radio appearances, she has been able to reach people all over the United States and Canada.

Ivy feels her appreciation and knowledge of people comes from her extensive world travel and interacting with them in unusual places, like participating in a harvest festival with tribal elders in Borneo, trekking into the Karen hill tribe village of Chiang Mai, rafting the River Kwai, hiking through a mined battlefield in Viet Nam, dining on witchiti grubs with the Aborigines in Australia, and walking through the Nazi Concentration Camps of Auschwitz-Birkenau, Poland and Terezin, Prague. Her greatest honor was meeting Simon Weisenthal in Vienna. Audiences and clients appreciate her story telling ability and experiences. Ivy shares her life because she believes if you haven’t lived it you can’t talk from personal knowledge and help people. She says, “my life's purpose is to help change the world to be more loving and peaceful, one person at a time."
