Sometime before graduating from New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts, Batalon auditioned for Spider-Man: Homecoming, unaware of the role or the even the title of the production. He was flown out to Burbank, California to audition with Tom Holland, landing the role of Ned, and becoming close friends with Holland in the process.

In July 2017, Batalon was cast in young-adult film Every Day.

Batalon was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Filipino parents. Upon graduating from the private and Catholic Damien Memorial School, Batalon attended Kapi'olani Community College to study Music Theory, but later dropped-out. He then took a two-year program to study acting at New York Conservatory for Dramatic Arts where he started to appreciate the craft.
