International Lawyer & Author of "Robot Rules: Regulating Artificial Intelligence"

Jacob Turner is an author, speaker and international lawyer. He is widely recognized as one of the leading experts in the world on AI ethics and regulation, and advises businesses and governments on this topic.

He is the author of "Robot Rules: Regulating Artificial Intelligence" (Palgrave Macmillan, 2018), which has been described by Lord Neuberger, former President of the UK Supreme Court as “timely, thought-provoking and significant”, and as “superb” by Lord Clement-Jones, Chair of the UK All Party Parliamentary Group on AI.

Turner speaks regularly on AI. At the invitation of the United Nations he has addressed the government and military of China on AI and the implications for national security. He has provided training on AI to the judiciaries of the UAE and Singapore. He has also delivered speeches at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, UNESCO in Paris, and at the European Commission in Brussels. Turner is a member of the advisory board of Conflict Analytics Lab, a research-based consortium on artificial intelligence and data analytics applied to conflict resolution and negotiation.

In private practice, Turner acted for a group of Uber Cabs drivers in one of the leading cases on challenging algorithmic decision-making. He has also acted for sovereign states including Argentina, Greece, and Iraq. He is a former speechwriter to an Ambassador to the United Nations and Law Clerk at the UK Supreme Court. Turner holds degrees in law from Oxford and Harvard.
