Chief Investment Officer and Vice President of Investments, University of California

Jagdeep Singh Bachher is chief investment officer and vice president of investments at the University of California. He is responsible for managing the UC pension, endowment, short-term and total-return pools. Previously, Bachher was executive vice president of venture and innovation for Alberta Investment Management Corp. (AIMCo) in Canada. He also served as AIMCo's deputy chief investment officer and chief operating officer. Prior to that, he was president of JH Investments (Delaware) LLC and worked for Manulife Financial in its U.S. wealth management, Canadian and investments divisions. Before joining Manulife, he was an entrepreneur. Bachher is a visiting scholar in the Global Projects Center at Stanford University and chairman emeritus of the Institutional Investors Roundtable. He is also a member of the Young Presidents' Organization and the Institute of Corporate Directors. Bachher received his B.A.Sc. degree in mechanical engineering and M.A.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in management sciences from the University of Waterloo.
