The son of a single teenage mom, and raised by his grandparents in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Jaime overcame the challenges of grinding poverty with the help of teachers and mentors who believed in him. From a mobile home to Yale University and Georgetown Law, Jaime never forgot who he was or where he came from. Now, Jaime is running for U.S. Senate in South Carolina against Lindsey Graham.

Throughout his career, he has had many notable achievements. In 2013, he became the first African American chair of the South Carolina Democratic Party. He also ran for chairperson of the Democratic National Committee in 2017, before eventually ending his bid and endorsing Tom Perez. After this, Perez appointed Harrison as associate chairman and counselor of the DNC, where he implemented the "Every ZIP Code Counts" program.
