James Loewen

Sociologist, Historian, & Author of "Lies My Teacher Told Me"

Loewen has taught on the collegiate level for years, leading classes on racism and sociology. He is best known for his book, Lies My Teacher Told Me. Loewen spent two years researching at the Smithsonian and in his book, asserts that many history textbooks distort the truth.

When he co-authored his own history textbook, Mississippi: Conflict and Change in 1974, it was rejected for being too controversial and too focused on racial issues. Loewen filed a lawsuit and won, and now The American Library Association views this case as a historic win for the First Amendment.

Loewen continues to write, and is currently researching historical inaccuracies from all across the United States.
