James O. Woolliscroft is dean of medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School. In 2001, he received an endowed professorship, the Lyle C. Roll professor of medicine and medical education, for his work in enhancing the practice of medicine through education. Woolliscroft’s research in medical education has resulted in numerous publications, presentations, and visiting professorships across the US and internationally. Woolliscroft is the recipient of many awards including the Association of American Medical Colleges Group on Educational Affairs’ Merrel Flair Award, in 2008; the Society for General Internal Medicine Career Achievement in Medical Education Award, in 2004; and in 1996, Woolliscroft was named the first Josiah Macy, Jr. Professor of Medical Education, an endowed professorship awarded through a national competition
