James grew up on Long Island in Sayville, NY and attended the University of North Carolina, Wilmington for his undergraduate work. While at UNCW, James discovered his love for two life-changing passions: comedy and college students’ lives. He helped start an improvisational comedy troupe on campus, he started writing and performing stand-up comedy and he became a Resident Assistant. James earned his B.S. in Marine Biology in May of 2005 and promptly put it to good use by going to graduate school for counseling!

Not being able to get out of the South, James went to Clemson University in South Carolina to complete his graduate work in Higher Education Counseling. At Clemson he also realized his passion for Social Justice work as noted in his efforts with the One World Project. He became a proud brother of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. in February of 2007. In May of 2007 James earned his Masters of Counselor Education: Student Affairs Practice in Higher Education.

James decided to leave the South after seven years. He returned to his home state and the greatest city on Earth to be closer to his family and his dreams. Pursuing his comedy dreams, he studies improvisational comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York. He is currently performing around this city with a number of improv troupes including the freestyle rapping improv team that he created, North Coast. James has been presenting programs at conferences since 2002, and has won “Top Program” honors on state, regional and national levels. Becoming a professional speaker has allowed James to do the two things he loves the most: having a positive impact on individuals’ lives and making people laugh!
