jamie elman was born benjamin david elman on july 5th 1976 in new york and grew up in montreal, canada. he has been acting professionally since age 16 and starred in numerous films and television series before landing the lead role of cody in fox's hit teen sitcom "student bodies". with a natural talent for acting he also landed roles in feature films alongside actors such as keanu reeves in "johnny mnemonic", which won him fans around the world and made him a household name in canada. jamie is best known in the united states for his role as luke, the resident piano-playing record store guy and boyfriend, on nbc's award-winning and critically acclaimed drama "american dreams." he was part of the ensemble cast of the critically acclaimed film shattered glass opposite hayden christensen and peter sarsgaard, and has guest-starred on numerous popular series including "crossing jordan," "criminal minds," "without a trace", "csi: ny" and "the closer".

recent roles include starring opposite armand assante in california dreamin’ (endless) which won the Un Certain Regard award at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival; portraying a young sigmund freud, again opposite assante and ben cross, in when nietzsche wept; and on the small screen, where he improvised with the great larry david in hbo’s “curb your enthusiasm.”

jamie can next be seen starring in fox mobile Studios new comedy web series “brainstorm”; in the sci-fi drama the scientist (written and directed by zach lebeau); in the season 3 premiere of amc’s emmy award winning series “mad men”; and in fremantle media’s “crazy/sexy/awkward,” which is in development for tv, and which he co-created, wrote and produced, as well as starred in.

jamie graduated from mcgill university with a BA in english. a multi-talented performer, he is also an accomplished pianist and singer. he is also fluent in several languages such as english, french, hebrew and yiddish. he currently resides in los angeles.
