Navigating the Uncharted Seas of Aging: Staying Young, Caring for a Parent or Loved One. Insights from 32 years in home care.

Jane M. Sullivan is the president and CEO of AllWays Caring Services, Inc., an industry leader in home healthcare in the Chicago area. Jane is highly regarded as a pioneer in home-based eldercare, and has provided vision and inspiration through compassionate caring for the homebound for over thirty years.

“My commitment to caring for the elderly and infirm started with a fundamental belief in the power of community. I sought a personal connection with the people around me, and quickly discovered that I had neighbors in need of home healthcare who had nowhere to turn. Professional in-home care simply didn’t exist in the ‘60s. Though young and inexperienced, I was determined to help neighbors in need live with dignity and maximum independence in their own homes. I formed Rogers Park Home Health Care in 1971, and was awarded a grant to start the first training program for nurse aides working in a home setting. The scope of my “neighborhood” kept growing, and I developed a private caregiver registry, and eventually, AllWays Caring Services, Inc., a full service organization meeting a broad array of in-home needs throughout Lake, Cook, DuPage, and Kane counties.

“At AllWays Caring, our caregivers, nurse managers, and office staff are an extended family. They are treated with the same respect and dignity as our clients. Having good places to work, and good people to work with is a real benefit — as evidenced by our many long-term caregivers. This personal sense of community serves as a foundation for the committed and compassionate care we provide our clients and their families. If I had to sum up who we are in just a few words, it would be this:

AllWays Caring is a community of caring, based on trust and vision.”
