Jane McAdam
Nonresident senior fellow in the Brookings-LSE Project on Internal Displacement
Jane McAdam is a nonresident senior fellow in the Brookings-LSE Project on Internal Displacement. Professor McAdam is an Australian Research Council Future Fellow at the Faculty of Law, University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia and is the director of the International Refugee and Migration Law project in the Gilbert + Tobin Centre of Public Law. She also is a research associate at the University of Oxford's Refugee Studies Centre. She works in the area of international refugee law, with a particular focus on complementary protection and climate-change induced displacement. Her current research examines human rights approaches to slow-onset climate change-related displacement and relocation in the Pacific.
Jane McAdam’s books include books include Climate Change, Forced Migration, and International Law (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2012), Climate Change and Australia: Warming to the Global Challenge (with Ben Saul, Steven Sherwood, Tim Stephens and James Slezak; Annandale: The Federation Press, 2012); Climate Change and Displacement: Multidisciplinary Perspectives (ed; Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2010); Forced Migration, Human Rights and Security (ed; Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2008); Complementary Protection in International Refugee Law (Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2007); and The Refugee in International Law (with Guy Goodwin-Gill; Oxford: Oxford University Press, 2007).
She serves as the associate rapporteur of the Convention Refugee Status and Subsidiary Working Party for the International Association of Refugee Law Judges and has been a consultant to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees on the legal aspects of climate change-related displacement. She has advised a number of governments on matters related to climate change-related displacement and refugee law.
Jane McAdam holds a BA (Hons) from the University of Sydney, an LLB (Hons) from the University of Sydney and a DPhil from the University of Oxford.
