AI Humorist, Research Scientist in Optics & Author

Janelle Shane is an AI humorist who writes about the intersection between art and science. She is also a research scientist in optics. In April 2019, she gave a TED talk as part of TED2019. She also gave a TED talk titled "AIWeirdness - How AI will impact your life" at the Better by Design - CEO Summit.

Shane runs a blog called AIweirdness that is a collection of AI algorithms that try to imitate human datasets. Shane's humor blog, AIweirdness.com, looks at, as she tells it, "the strange side of artificial intelligence." She started the blog when she was a PhD student in electrical engineering at the University of California San Diego.

Her book, You Look Like a Thing and I Love You: How AI Works and Why It's Making the World a Weirder Place, uses cartoons and humorous pop-culture experiments to look inside the minds of the algorithms that run our world, making artificial intelligence and machine learning both accessible and entertaining.
