Dr. Jason Johnson is a Political Contributor and Host for MSNBC, Host on SIRIUS XM , Politics Writer at The Grio.com and professor of politics and journalism at Morgan State University, and author of the book “Political Consultants and Campaigns: One Day to Sell”. His commentary ranges from politics to pop culture, from the Russian hacking investigation to whether Spiderman has morphed from a Baby Boomer hero to Millennial tech Icon.

Dr. Johnson has been active in politics across the globe making him a valuable guest or panelist in many venues. He’s worked for Republicans and Democrats in the U.S. Internationally, he worked on the London Mayoral election, advised the Independent Electoral Commission in Johannesburg South Africa, served as an election observer in the last three contested elections in Mexico and delivered several invited talks on American politics to the Australian Embassy. Over the last two presidential cycles Dr. Johnson delivered lecture tours throughout Europe on Internet Strategy in American presidential campaigns.

Dr. Johnson brings a fresh, objective and insightful perspective to politics in print, in the studio or on the ground. Prior to joining MSNBC, he covered many events in the field including the 2016 Conventions and debates, the Ferguson riots, and The 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for various outlets including CNN, Fox Business, FUSION, TVONE, Al Jazeera and local affiliates.

Dr. Johnson has spoken to and moderated for, groups both large and small, from intimate guest lectures at Northwestern University, Spelman College and the U.S. Consulate in Munich Germany to larger organizations like the National Press Club, the Congressional Black Caucus, The Twitter Townhall at the Democratic National Convention and Universities in Frankfurt and Johannesburg. Johnson regularly wins over audiences on all sides of the political spectrum with his ability to use wit, hard facts, pop culture and history to make persuasive arguments about what is happening in the world and why.

Professor Johnson is a graduate of the University of Virginia and received his Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina.
